We want to share with you some information about the safe, natural and effective cleaner that our family has been using at home for about five-years.
What is Force of Nature?
Force of Nature is an appliance that turns tap water, plus a capsule of salt and vinegar into a cleaner, deodorizer and disinfectant as effective as bleach. It is kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and contains only three simple ingredients.
Force of Nature is an EPA-registered disinfectant & sanitizer that kills 99.9% of germs, even Staph, MRSA, Norovirus, Influenza A, Salmonella, and Listeria when used as directed.
How about Coronavirus?

Force of Nature has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to COVID-19 on hard, non-porous surfaces. According to the companies’ website, Force of Nature can be used against COVID-19 when used in accordance with the directions for use against Norovirus on hard non-porous surfaces. You can see more information on that here.
Force of Nature is on the EPA’s List of Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. That list is available here.
How does Force of Nature work?

Electricity is used to change the chemical composition of salt, water and vinegar into a cleaner & disinfectant called electrolyzed water.
Electrolyzed water has no harmful ingredients, residues or fumes and contains just two gentle, yet potent ingredients:
- Hypochlorous acid – a disinfectant that’s as effective as bleach. Hypochlorous acid is the same substance your white blood cells produce to fight infection, and it’s commonly the active ingredient in wound, eye and veterinary care products because it’s so gentle and effective. Hypochlorous acid is gentle enough to spray on the surfaces children and pets come into contact with.
- Sodium hydroxide – a detergent & grease-cutter without suds. Contains just 0.0000003% yet cleans as well as major brands that have up to 5%.
Below is a video that I made with my daughter, Mia, to show you how simple it is to make a bottle of cleaner. I also talk through the ways that we personally use Force of Nature in our home.
How is Force of Nature better than making a DIY cleaner with vinegar?
Vinegar does not kill germs to the level required by the EPA. Even undiluted vinegar isn’t strong enough to kill viruses.
Vinegar has some drawbacks that Force of Nature overcomes due to the chemistry change that the appliance creates. Cleaning with regular vinegar damages stone surfaces and corrodes grout & rubber over time; Force of Nature does not.
What does it smell like?
The Hypochlorous acid gives Force of Nature a mild chlorine-like smell. The smell lingers for only a few moments and doesn’t bother anyone in our family. But with that said, this may not be the right choice for someone who is incredibly sensitive to scents.
There is no added fragrance (the solution is just water, vinegar, salt, and electricity) and I find the smell more mild than many natural cleaning sprays such as some products from Meyers, Method and Seventh Generation.
In fact, it’s the only cleaner you can buy with no fragrances, dyes, preservatives or surfactants. In addition, it costs a fraction of the price of any of those cleaners as well!
How long does each bottle of cleaner last?
Just like bubbles in a carbonated drink, hypochlorous acid starts to dissipate over time. To be absolutely sure Force of Nature is at its optimal disinfecting power, you should use it within 2 weeks. The bottle is 12 oz (vs a typical cleaner which is around 26-32 oz) so most families use about a bottle a week when they use it for all their multi-purpose-purpose cleaning & disinfecting needs. This is certainly the case for our family. Because it has no harmful chemicals, you can dispose of any unused product right down the drain.
