Dr Roy’s Approach
“Wellness is our ability to respond to challenges and stressors effectively and return to a state of balance. I focus on the root cause and aim to support my patient’s natural resources for healing.”
Dr. Roy Steinbock, M.D.
Doctor as Teacher
Even before he began medical school, Dr. Roy believed it was a doctor’s responsibility to treat illness as well as teach people how to live a healthy and meaningful life. The word “doctor” is derived from the Latin verb “docere” which means to teach.
Teaching is an intrinsic part of being a physician. Dr. Roy’s approach aims to educate his patients about their health and treatment choices, empowering them to actively participate in their own healing.
Address the Cause
Dr. Roy began his training in western medicine but realized very quickly that the focus was exclusively on pathology and disease treatment. As a lifelong athlete, he drew from his experience trying a variety of dietary approaches, highlighting the profound influence that food had on both his physical and mental well-being. This was the spark that ignited his passion for holistic, natural, and functional medicine.
Dr. Roy named his practice Mindful Pediatrics in 2006—choosing the word “mindful” long before it was widely used—because of his own commitment to personal, spiritual, and professional growth through the practices of mindfulness and meditation. He believes that mindfulness is a key component to his ability to be compassionate, intuitive, present, and highly focused on his patients’ needs.
Treat the Whole Person
Dr. Roy understands that every individual has a level of resiliency that varies over time and is influenced by a combination of internal and external factors. Our resilience may be compromised when lacking essential elements such as proper nutrition, sleep, sunshine, and connection, or when exposed to excessive amounts of harmful factors like dietary and environmental toxins, infections, screen time, and stress.
He strives to help his patients be truly healthy in mind and body — not just free of symptoms.
